1st Mediterranean Conference on Intelligent Systems and Automation

Keynote plenary talks

CISA’08 will feature keynote plenary talks by the following experts in diverse areas of intelligent systems and automation :

Pr. Francois Chaumette Senior Research Scientist at INRIA, is one leading experts of the following research areas : visual servoing, active perception, computer vision and robotics.

Pr. Leonid Fridman Professor at the Control and Electrical Engineering Department at UNAM. His researches concern : sliding mode, nonlinear control, observation and fault detection.

Pr. Kamal Youcef-Toumi Professor of Mechanical Engineering at MIT. Professor Youcef-Toumi’s research has focused primarily on design and control theory and its applications to dynamic systems. Throughout his research career he has strived to maintain a balance between theoretical aspects and practical applications.

Pr. Belkacem Ould Bouamama is full Professor and head of the research at “Ecole Polytechnique Universitaire de Lille, France”. His main research areas, developed at the “Laboratoire d’Automatique Génie Informatique et Signal de Lille” (associated with the CNRS, the French National Center For Scientific Research), concern Integrated Design for Supervision of System Engineering. Their application domains are mainly nuclear, petrochemical, and mechatronic systems. He is the author of several international publications in this domain. He is co-author of three books in bond graph modeling and Fault Detection and Isolation area.

Pr. Abderrahmane Kheddar is currently a tenure professor at the university of Evry, France. Since 2003, in the frame of his CNRS secondment, he took a Director of Research position and is the Codirector of the AIST/CNRS Joint Japanese-French Robotics Laboratory (JRL) in Tsukuba, Japan. His research interests include chronologically teleoperation and telerobotics, haptic interaction with virtual and machined avatars (sensing and display), humanoids (contact planning, haptic, dynamic control), and electro-active polymers for haptic displays.

Pr. Farid Amirouche joined the university of Illinois at Chicago in 1984 and he is currently a University of Illinois Scholar professor, professor of Mechanical and Bioengineering and a Professor of Orthopedics in the College of Medicine at UIC. He is the author of 5 books and over 200 technical papers. His current research is in biomechanics and medical devices. He is the author of seven patents and currently serves as a CEO and President of a startup Company with emphasis on smart orthopedic implants.

Pr. Geneviève Dauphin-Tanguy is presently Professor of Control Design at Ecole Centrale de Lille and Head of the research group “Bond graph models” in the Laboratoire d’Automatique Génie Informatique et Signal ( LAGIS associated with the CNRS, french National Center for Scientific Research). She is expert for the French Ministry of Education and Research. She is mainly engaged in the research fields of Modelling, Analysis, Control and Monitoring of systems by using the bond-graph tool. Her application domains are mechatronics in car industry and aeronautics, thermofluid processes (fuel cells) and power systems.
